Our new Panel Clips 11mm, custom designed and made to suit our Prado easels, could be just the ticket to hold the image panel in place when the image is on 10mm (or thinner) board.

Panel Clip 11mm (prototype in yellow)

The Panel Clip (or sometimes we say Top Bracket) slips over the mast and lets gravity move it down until it rests on, and “captures”, the 10mm board. The only thing visible to the viewer is the short tongue that drops down to hold the board. This image shows the clip upside down – to use it we turn it over and drop it over the mast.

As an alternative, it can also be used (in the orientation of the image) at the bottom of the image when the imate is tall (say 1500-1800mm) and it is sitting at floor level. The Panel Clip fits around the leg of the easel, and holds the bottom of the image in place.

Usually we find that no clips are needed. Most people who use the easels don’t use any top brackets or clips, even when the possibility is explained to them. However, there may be situations where they are useful, such as:

  • the easel and image are in a breezy area and the panel is light, so the breeze may catch it.
  • the space is tight around the easels, and there is the risk that somebody might bump and dislodge the board.
  • the easel and its image are to be moved around, and you want to minimise the risk of the board falling off the easel.

The panel clips are custom designed by us to be useful with the Prado easels, particularly with 10mm board. After discussing what would work best with a client, we designed this clip and have had them made as a custom item (in black, not yellow).

What should you do when planning your display? Think about whether you will need brackets at the top, to secure your image. In many cases you won’t, but it is good to consider whether a top bracket could be useful. We have different top bracket designs, including this Panel Clip 11mm, so feel free to talk to us about what will work best for you.
